About Mary

Originally from Mineola, Texas, I landed in Kansas City in 2014, where I’ve lived just around the corner from Lumine in the Waldo neighborhood.  I grew up in the theatre — my mom’s a pianist, so even when I wasn’t in the show, I was there! That early love of storytelling through hair, makeup, and fashion eventually led me to the University of Texas at Austin’s School of Radio-Television-Film — where I discovered how much I enjoy creative work behind the scenes as well as being onstage.  

Having grown up with hair that is a tricky texture, I did not always leave the salon feeling fully taken care of.  That left me to figure some things out, and gain a great understanding of working with texture over the years. Eventually I realized I’ve been helping people with their hair for forever, so maybe I should pursue that— and I graduated from Paul Mitchell the School Overland Park in October 2024. Better late than never— I call it a “midlife revival”.

My style inspiration comes from everywhere I’ve lived and traveled, from 90’s/00’s Austin street style to modern Polish mall culture. I find so much beauty in everyday people and their own forms of self expression. I’m passionate about creating a personalized experience where my clients feel seen, heard, and appreciated, and where they leave feeling more like themselves than ever.
